Pregnancy is a journey. At the end, a woman gives birth not only to a baby, but also to her own identity as a mother. ~ Gayle Peterson

Totally Random

May 14, 2009

  •  I am charmed at the new interest of my little boy – standing alone and taking few steps.

  • I am so excited about Vien’s first birthday, with more people wanting to help out. Isn’t that great?
  • I am still marveling at how Vien grows so fast; he used to be so tiny and calm; he is far from that now.

  • I am still debating with myself whether I should make every Saturday a badminton day.
  • I am trying to find ways to balance caring for Vien and my work, but always end up doing less of the latter.
  • I am incredibly grateful for A. who cooks, makes me laugh so damn often, rearranges the furniture and then back, listens, loves, hopes, and holds me even without asking.
  • I feel I need more rest but not quite sure how to do it.
  • I want to freeze time just so I could play with Vien longer and sleep longer.
  • I am amused at the fact that Vien is moving so much, even I cannot keep up with him.
  • I am constantly wondering how Vien turned out to be a sweet little boy when I am not.
  • I feel so good about winning badminton sets and quite challenged at every lost.
  • I am thankful for the blessings still pouring at our door despite my blatant disobedience.
  • I am greatly enjoying my 9-month-old baby and looking forward to every single month thereafter.
  • I was glad some friends paid a home visit to see Vien in person.
  • I was secretly elated at the recent bus experience I had with A.
  • I was surprised upon knowing that there are people who still believe in sacraments of marriage  and mortal sins.
  • I am getting good feedback from relatives who visited the new blog I created a few weeks back. Thank you.

MM #3: Happy Mommy Moments

May 8, 2009

I am a happy mom. I don’t know if it shows but I could say that my life right now is at it’s peak. Forget all about the recession, lay offs, new seating arrangement at work, etc. There is nothing, I say nothing (and no one), could possibly ruin my day. I love my life! I love being a mother to Vien. I love him. I love being happy with him. Despite the stress at work  and beng tired most of the time, I could still find strength to smile and laugh at the sight of my baby boy. He lifts me up. He is my life now. He makes me feel good about life. I love the fact that he loves me unconditionally. I know that my day would never ever be complete without him. And I definitely don’t care if I am being sappy and emotional right now :>

And oh, happy mother’s day to all my mommy friends!

9.5 Months

May 6, 2009

he can already sit on a high chair

It’s amazing how babies grow so fast! Vien is now 9.5 months old and weighs about 10 kilos. He eats solid food like a pro. He loves to munch on ripe mango or sweet papaya as well as pandesal in small sizes every morning. He already knows that it’s eating time; when he sees me preparing his food with his own spoon and bowl, he would appear to cry (with matching closing and opening of eyes and pouting of lips). It’s as if he’s telling me “Hurry up, I’m hungry!”

He can crawl, climb, walk with support, and sit. He uses our furniture in the house to help him stand and cruise unaided. He has perfected his own game that involves standing up from sitting position; when already upright, he would remove his hands one after the other from our sofa until he’s standing on his own. Then for a couple of seconds, he would flap his hands for several times and smile at us before diving into a pile of pillows we carefully placed so he would not get a bump. This he does over and over till he gets tired. A dangerous game he learned on his own.

He knows how to use his feet and knees to climb up and down from chairs and stairs. He loves to climb up to our sofa but can’t climb down yet; he would crawl down and, if not aided, would smack his face unto our wooden floor. Hence, we are not allowed to sleep and wake up before he does, something that is hard to do since he has learned to wake up without any sound anymore. We wouldn’t know when he’s already awake unless he comes to us and slaps our faces.

This cute little rascal can crawl with speed. One minute he’s beside me, and then with a blink of eyelashes, he’s crawling away from me, toward our computer and TV area where electric cables abound! Oh no! He will have his first electric shock sooner than expected. Hehe

My little guy also helps me undress him. He would raise his one foot and then the other when I’m taking off his PJ. However, he is mostly irritated when I’m putting on his shirt; it’s a daily fight between us that goes away the minute his shirt is put on. My life is boring without him and his temper.

He enjoys watching Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck. He also laughs at scenes where there is Pluto. He also likes to watch Little Einstein then doze off in the middle of the show. He prefers slapstick comedy over educational cartoon programs, play over studying. Something tells me he’d grow up to be just like me! :O)

He enjoys objects that move, like the tree leaves when blown with the wind. A.’s rocking foot when eating, and of course our wall fan. He likes to play hide and seek with his tatay. He is also into banging and bumping objects. His favorite objects in the house are TV remote controls and cellphones. He would leave his most colorful toy at the sight of a cellphone and would grab it from one hand to the other, bang it on the floor, throw it, or just mouth it.

Last but not the least, he has learned to stand up unaided and take two to three steps on his own! My little guy is unstoppable.  He seems to want to do so many things with those little hands and feet.

It’s fun to watch him grow and learn new things each day, while all of us are on the look out for unexpected bumps and bruises. Right now, A. and I are enjoying our daily routine with Vien. We are looking forward to seeing what he could do for the coming months, not exactly rushing him to grow up, though, but expecting more amazing milestones that will leave both A. and I in awe.

Two Shots in a Row

May 4, 2009

Ouch! That’s for me seeing my baby having those scary needles inserted into his fatty thighs; I was holding his hands while A. was holding his feet. The first shot was hard for us because Vien was struggling to be released from our hands. Being restricted is not one of his favorite things. Vien’s face was clouded with fear and confusion. What’s going on? Why wasn’t he allowed to move? I wanted to explain to him that this is necessary so he won’t get sick and his tatay and I were there to be with him all the way. But I knew it won’t take away the confusion in his face and the tears in his eyes. He cried the first time the needle touched his skin. I felt a big thud inside me. Tears were about to fall from my eyes as well. But I fought it. I though I would look OA. The second shot was ever more difficult for me because I could see Vien’s eyes looking at me, as if he wanted to question me why I allowed him to be hurt. He cried, loud enough for me to feel guilty. The nurse said sorry for a couple of times. I carried Vien and rocked him. Before I whispered any comforting words to him, he stopped crying and looked around. He saw his tatay talking to his pediatrician. He looked at me, still with tears on his eyes. Then fear was slowly erased from his face. He started to get interested at the other things in the room. The bed where he was forcedfully lied down, the many medicines displayed against the wall, the books, windows, chairs, etc. By the time the conversation between A. and Vien’s doctor ended, Vien was already in his happy playful mode. I am very very proud of my little man. He is surely growing so fast.
